NEWSLETTER FOR JUNE 2017

NEWSLETTER

The June edition of the newsletter is being issued by the Parish Council of Holy Redeemer in conjunction with Rosslyn in the Parish Office.

THE CANON’S JUBILEE

The Canon was very moved by the huge congregation at his Jubilee Mass on 21st May. The sun shone, the choir sang magnificently and the food at the street party that followed was excellent. He will want to express his own thanks but the Council would like to thank everyone who took part in all the preparations (servers, sacristy, choir, flowers, those who set up and cleaned the church, those who spent so much time cooking and preparing for the street party). We know how very moved he was by all the very kind messages that he received. He assures us that he will do his best to write to all those who so kindly gave gifts.

A BUSY JUNE

The Parish is gearing up for the celebration of First Holy Communion on Saturday 6th June at 12 noon, and likewise the ceremony of Confirmation being conferred on some of our teenagers on Wednesday 7th June at 7pm. Others to be confirmed at the same time will be teenagers from St Mary’s Chelsea, and from the Servite parish itself, the host church.

In June the following feasts will be celebrated:

PENTECOST SUNDAY (4th June)

TRINITY SUNDAY (11th June)

CORPUS CHRISTI (18th June)

THE MOST SACRED HEART OF JESUS (23rd June)

STS PETER and PAUL (29th JUNE), a weekday Holy Day of Obligation

THE DEDICATION OF THE CATHEDRAL CHURCH (1st July)

MARY’S MEALS

Following upon last year’s efforts by the children in support of Mary’s Meals, it is gratifying to learn that this year, during Lent as a project, the children saved up and gave the princely sum of £800 to this worthwhile charity. See the website.

REGISTRATIONS FOR FIRST HOLY COMMUNION 2018

Registration for next year’s First Holy Communion class will be on Tuesday 5th September at 5pm in the Monckton Room.  Classes are open to children of parishioners registered with Holy Redeemer and part of our parish community.  They should be in year 3 (7 years old). For younger children we offer a pre-Holy Communion Class which takes place at the same time.  Classes take place on Tuesday evenings from 5pm to 6pm during term time.  We follow the programme ‘Jesus Comes to Me’ by Dora Nash, which includes preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and Canon Brockie gives a talk to parents once a term.  Next year's First Holy Communion Mass will take place on Saturday 9th June 2018 at 12 noon. Parents wanting more details and wishing to register an interest are invited to email Sarah.

ORDINATIONS TO THE PRIESTHOOD

Please keep in prayer those seminarian-deacons of our Diocese who are to be ordained in Westminster Cathedral on Saturday 24th June at 10.30am, and to which all are welcome.

MONCKTON ROOM

Like all old buildings the church suffers the raves of time and weather. The north wall of the church that covers the Monckton Room has yielded to damp ingress. Over the summer months a firm of damp proofers will be on site. The Parish Council have taken a good deal of advice over all this and, in conjunction with the estates surveyor of the Diocese, have agreed the type of damp proofing to be used and the firm to do it. The Council has also been involved, together with the Canon, with party wall concerns in two cases: buildings to the south east of the church, and another immediately adjacent to the Rectory (Cheyne Walk Brasserie).

GUILD OF ST STEPHEN

The following boys were enrolled into the Archconfraternity of St Stephen for Altar Servers in May: Emmanuel, Christopher, Christian and Samuel Eguaroje who had been serving in their parish in Nigeria until their arrival in the parish early in 2016. Congratulations and thanks to them for their ministry. (Their sister Theresa has also started to be a Reader.)

NEW CATECHISTS REQUIRED

The Catechism classes rely on and need volunteers.  There might be somebody with time, experience or training, or it might suit a mother who has children attending the classes.  Anybody interested in finding out more please email Sarah.

PATRICIA FRANCES SAYER RIP

The funeral mass for the late Patricia Frances Sayer took place at the Holy Redeemer on 5th May. She was 98 years old. We offer condolences to her family. Lux aeterna luceat ea.

BAPTISMS

Congratulations to the parents and sponsors of Alexa Fremlin-Key and Emmanuel Suchet who were baptised in May.

Francis de Zulueta (Parish Council)
